Zimbabwe: Harare to rename roads

update (13 Aug 2012): The Zimbabwean government has reversed the renaming of three roads in Harare claiming it was never consulted.

The City Council of Harare has announced the renaming of three of the city's roads. The Enterprise Road will be renamed after the late retired Army General Solomon Tapfumaneyi Mujuru, although Mujuru’s widow, Joice, must still approve the use of her late husband's name. Harare's Enterprise Road was picked to be renamed after General Mujuru because it is near the KG VI Army barracks.

The other two roads in Harare that will be renamed are the Rotten Row, which will be named after the late Chief Justice Enoch Dumbutshena, and Churchill Road, which will become Professor Walter Kamba Road. Both the Dumbutshena and the Kamba families have already agreed to the changes.
The Rotten Row will get renamed after late Chief Justice Enoch Dumbutshena because Harare's Magistrates’ Courts are located along the road.
Churchill Road
will be renamed after Professor Walter Kamba, the first black Vice-Chancellor of the University of Zimbabwe after independence, because the Uni is located on that road.
